anti-feminism-pro-equality:

coronaryay:

sjwstupidity:

Okay but a lot of the shit she suggests is misogyny actually isn’t.  For example, “You’re able to kill these women in Hitman: Absolution and encouraged to drag their bodies around like playthings.”
You literally lose points and get a lower payout if you kill them.
They’re literally the only females in the game that you’re able to kill.
You can kill and drag around all the men in the game, which vastly outnumber those 2 females on that single level.
You can also steal the mens’ clothes and drag them around in nothing but their underpants.
Her suggestion that it promotes violence vs women in a game where violence vs men is the norm suggests that women’s lives are to be valued at a higher rate than men’s.  Isn’t this a patriarchal concept which led to women being denied entry into military service and other attitudes towards women as being lesser and weak?
And that’s just her analysis of one game, she has, what, 4 videos out?  There are so many more biased instances of her drawing shit out of context to cherry pick and insert “misogyny” where there is none.

I’m just going to address this little part of a large, incoherent, and very silly post (lol, yes, your high school english essay prompt is truly the height of critical analysis). Here is the rest, if you’re so inclined (and masochistic).

You’re going to attempt to dismiss my argument on her lack of critical analysis because I outlined shit a high schooler should know…what, because high school lessons don’t have real world applications or something?  You’re probably that one kid who asked why we have to learn fractions if we don’t plan on going into a math heavy profession.

Saying, “It’s OK, because the game penalizes you,” is both myopic and ignores the fact that Anita addresses that criticism in her very next breath. Namely: who cares. Sure, you lose points— but if the game doesn’t want you dragging provocatively-clad women around like dolls why is it an option?

No, it’s not myopic, it directly addresses her assertion that it encourages this behavior.  Allowing something in a game isn’t the same as encouraging something.  In Mario Kart I can continuously drive off the edge of the road and have Lakitu repeatedly grab me with his fishing line and put me back on the track until everyone else in the race has finished all their laps.  In The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind you can kill (probably) every single NPC in the game (at least nearly) so long as you become powerful enough.  The game does not encourage you to do this, however, because if you do so you will no longer be able to use shops or complete quests and you may as well start over.  Having something as a feature isn’t the same as encouraging any sort of behavior.  ”So what if it penalizes you.”  Well, if you don’t get a good score at the end of missions in the Hitman series, you get smaller payouts.  Smaller payouts means an inhibited ability to purchase better gear that will be needed on future missions.  Reusing the same small cache of weapons in more advanced missions further along therefore increases mission difficulty and just generally restricts gameplay overall.
So yeah, almost nobody who plays Hitman goes around indiscriminately killing people, much less those 2 women.
And are you seriously proposing that merely having the option to kill women is misogynist?  Women are delicate creatures whom should be protected from danger at all times, even if they’re fictionalized digital women?  Wow, you’re the misogynist!
The option to kill them is there because the setting provides that women would also exist in this fictional world, and they would reasonably be present in the night club setting the level takes place in.  You can kill them for the same reason you can kill any of the men who are not your target: because they can be witnesses who will ruin your mission if they see you, and it’s up to you to decide how to deal with potential witnesses.
Furthermore, it’s generally a disliked feature in video games to have characters that are immune to being hurt or killed by the player character.  The main reason a lot of people like Morrowind over Skyrim, despite that it’s close to 10 years older, is that you could kill anyone in Morrowind…the game didn’t protect you from the negative consequences of killing someone who would have a negative impact on the rest of the game.  It allowed you the personal freedom to make your own choices and forced you to deal with those choices once you made them.
Gamers like immersion, in the real world if you aim a gun and shoot at someone they don’t say “Hey! Stop that!”  They get wounded or die, and you have to deal with the consequences.  People want their fictional characters to have to deal with consequences too…so why wouldn’t you be able to kill women in a game where you can also kill men?
Or is your suggestion that those women shouldn’t have existed in the game at all…if anyone makes a game where you can murder people, that game should also have no women characters in it at all?  That’s so fucking ridiculous I won’t even entertain the thought any further.

Similarly, in a number of other games (GTA springs to mind) the “penalty” for brutalizing a virtual sex objects is the same “penalty” for other crimes, i.e. a fun police chase/violent rampage. Moving on.

Actually the police chase is only fun for the first 3 stars, after that the military gets called in and you die pretty fucking fast.  Unless you’re playing on easy, getting the heat for any crime is generally leads to the player wanting to lose that heat as fast as they can by outrunning the police ‘til their wanted level goes away, or finding a Pay n’ Spray.
Of course, you can go on violent rampages in the game, sure.  Some people don’t play for the story and actually play it as a survival match to see how long they can hold out with swarms and swarms of cops coming at you…so what?  Are you still suggesting that the problem in these games is that women can also be among those your player character kills?  Are you still suggesting that women characters be immune to damage or not exist in these games altogether?
Why do digital depictions of women need this special treatment?  Why are men both in real life and in fictional settings so disposable while women are so precious and delicate that even fictionalized depictions of their death must be banned?
And why are dead women in Hitman (dead women that you cannot undress, btw) sexualized while men aren’t?  Are you aware that homosexual/bi men can play these games and sexualize the men in their own mind (Hello, bisexual male here)?  Are you aware that females play those games and can easily sexualize male bodies in their minds?
Or is it because you’ve seen the video and know that these women happen to belong to the stripper profession, and because stripping is a sexualized profession it therefore should not be depicted in video games?  Because sexualized characters in video games, or characters in a sexual professional should not exist period in this medium?
I think you and Christian conservative parents have a lot in common.  Maybe you should go work for the Catholic church, for your shared Puritanical ideals.

If you are somehow unable to understand the difference between sexualized naked women and non-sexualized naked men, I fear you may be too far gone. Anyway.

Again, sexualization happens in your mind.  I can sexualize those naked men all I fucking want to.

What I find weird is that every criticism of this particular video focuses on Hitman. No one has ever addressed the looped “man murders prostituted woman while screaming misogynistic slurs” from Red Dead Redemption, or the “watch a woman get murdered by her abusive ex and then gun him down” option from Watch Dogs. Or the fact that you can literally buy a prostitute to try and save her life, only to have her be murdered anyway (Red Dead again). Or the fact that, in Assassin’s Creed, you can chase a man through the streets as he repeatedly murders (yet again) prostitutes. Or the fact that in God of War, you chain a bare-breasted woman to a giant wheel, while she pleads for her life, in order to continue through the level. Oh, and you can come back to look at her corpse and receive an achievement called “I didn’t do it… but I wish I did.”

I listed Hitman as a single example.  And I don’t know what misogynist slurs you’re talking about in Red Dead, I haven’t played the game…I just know the player can murder both men and women, as it’s basically a western version of GTA (made by the same studio).  In Watch_Dogs you’re encouraged to rescue women (the example Anita gives of there existing a human trafficking ring in Watch_Dogs ignores the fact that you’re there to liberate the victims from the criminal ring).  And in Assassin’s Creed, the objective is to save people from being murdered.  Complaining that it’s sexist to put a digital woman’s life in jeopardy for a mission in a video game when that game has you killing men left and right is in itself sexist as fuck.  The fact that you care more about women dying in games than men is more sexist than the examples you give of digital (not real) women being murdered.
And God of War is just a horribly violent and sadistic series overall.  Kratos murders men and women, gods and goddesses  But again, you only care when it’s women.
Also repeatedly complaining that it’s sexist because the women are sexualized ignores that sexualization happens inside your head.  The notion that we should stop prostitutes from existing in video games is nothing short of a demand of censorship.  But you can’t fathom why people are against Anita Sarkeesian when the public had a similar reaction when sexualized music was getting censored by the PMRC in the 80s.

Are those too blatantly misogynistic for you to brush off? Is that why you focus on Hitman? (Probably!)

No.  I focus on Hitman because it’s by far the most glaring bullshit and it stuck out in my mind…it doesn’t mean that other examples I didn’t go through in detail aren’t full of shit either.  Your entire argument is that men being murdered in video games is okay, but women shouldn’t be allowed to be digitally murdered because their lives are more valuable.  Or killing them should result in an instant game over and force you to reload or something.  Or that real life settings such as stripclubs should not exist in video games for some Puritanical bullshit reason.
Please stop, you’re a joke.  And you have the audacity to call my post silly.

That was the sickest burn I have seen in so long
